So I was on facebook today and suddenly BLAM! My display goes fucked up, kind of like static on a tv screen except more colourful and I can see my desktop in the background.
I was able to see enough behind the static to go download the latest driver for my graphics card but that didn't solve anything

I have a Nvidia 8500GT.

Any ideas / suggestions would be very very much appreciated thanks guys!

Oh and it's just using the default graphics thing now, 640x480 or whatever it is
I opened dxdiag and it isn't showing up my graphics card and when I tried to open nvidia control panel it said I'm not currently using a nvidia GPU.

Help!!!

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us that will search for the latest driver for your card, but not sure if that will fix it.

Yea id try uninstalling anything Nvidia that you can find on you cpu, shut it down and start it up again, then you can either try the website above and put the drivers on that way. or just to be sure its not the latest drivers doing it use your disc that come with the card. Windows 7 will put generic drivers on when u restart but you really want to put the Nvidia ones on. I know this can be driver related as my 9800gt did the same thing too me not to long ago. The card may also be stuffed too but try that and see how you go may fix your problem. You can also go to device manager and uninstall and re-install the drivers that way.

sounds like the video mem has died, especially if changing drivers makes no change, you can try reseating the card

Hm...... I just had a flash back, I had something similar happen to my pc after exiting from FB once, have you got malwarebytes?
If not d/l it free from link below and do a quick scan.

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

Also check in your Add Remove Programs/ Programs & Features and see if anything fishy is installed in there that shouldn't be and do a disc clean up & get rid of the history, cookies, temp internet files, offline pages etc... etc.....

And do a virus scan

failing any of that can you take and post a screenshot?

Have tried all of your suggestions with no luck, will probably take it into a shop tommorow and see what they can do.
